MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

29 June 2011

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Team, has been consulting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of small businesses in Cornwall presently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this type of industry going it does require just a bit of lift which is available in the form of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of conventional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
